November 2007 Meeting
First of all I would like to make sure that everyone was safe from the fires. We had to postpone the
Regional Conference from October 27, 2007 to January 26, 2008 because of the air quality from the fires.
The most important thing that I would like to mention about this Conference is that it will be the ONLY
one on the West Coast for the year 2008.
Anyone who had previously registered to attend the conference and has not yet reconfirmed with Shelly
that they will attend on the new conference date of January 26, needs to do so by November 30. Her e-
mail address is swilson@tna-support.org and if you need to call her you can contact me. My phone
number is on the next to last page of the newsletter.
There isn’t too much to report for this month since I thought I would be writing about the conference.
There are a few things that I would like to make mention of.
First of all, our membership has gone way down. After talking with Cindy at TNA and Jean Myers, the
treasure, we came up with the reason why.
When I first started approximately 10 years ago there where about 20-30 people. Ten years later those
people have come up with other health problems and have lost their rides to the meetings for different
reasons and they are not able to drive themselves. We miss all who cannot come to the meetings and
you have not left our hearts.
Second, I know that there were a couple of people who wanted the meetings set up for every other
month. Jean and I talked that over and this group has been around for so long that we wouldn’t know
which month was the meeting or no meeting.
So, what I have planned to do with the suggestion of Cindy at TNA is to keep the meetings each month
and take off in July and August which is when most people take their vacations and our freeways are a
mess to travel on.
It would make more work for me to go every other month since then I would have to send out postcards
and e-mails and remember which month it is myself. I don’t care if there are only 6 people. I will not
set up for doctors just yet until our numbers come back up.
I, unfortunately, know that there is a new generation of people that will have TN or other facial pains
and we should be there for them.
Dr. Alksne does so much for our group and it has been put into my lap to carry on and so I will. I still get
calls asking, “what do I do?” We are a part of TNA National and they cannot take care of all the calls by
themselves.
I spoke with Dorothy Jacobs the other day and she is doing very well and enjoys talking with others that
are in pain.
The bottom line is we will have a meeting every month except July and August.

Senior Expo
When Bill Buchan was the leader he would always be talking about “Health Fairs”, etc. Bill Gilliland had
built a backboard which was taken to the Health Fairs and did other things in order to get the word out
about TN. I never went to these Fairs since they were in San Diego, further East and South of where I
live in Carlsbad.
Last year I found out about the Oceanside Expo in 2006 but was too late to get in, so I put in my name
for 2007 and was sent an application for this year not knowing what I was getting myself into.
Well, I found it to be so much fun talking with people who didn’t know what TN was to finding people
that do have TN and didn’t know that there was a support group right here in La Jolla. I also had
Barbara, who is part of our group, with me for lots of help and helpful she was!!
While Barbara stayed at the table I walked around to see what everything was about. I wore me TNA
shirt which says, “2004 National Conference, San Diego, CA.”
Barbara and I both had so much fun that we will do this again next year and I will be doing one in
Encinitas next year also. Barbara said that she would help me any time. I know Barbara from my Church
and I got her to the right doctor. She is now off her medication and for the most part pain free.
Next month I will be looking over a couple of the DVD’s that I have from the 2006 Conference and will
write about that.
